Valentine’s Day and the single guy

“Valentine’s Day is a holiday – if you can even call it that – where couples are encouraged to rejoice in their relationships while single people secretly make fun of them. ” – Aaron Karo 

Last week Aaron Karo announced he will be launching his new tour from Miami on Thursday, February 14th. There will be an after party, location TBA.

Aaron Karo, is especially adept at addressing dating and being a single twenty-something. 

Karo will be performing at the Improv at 10:30 p.m. If you aren’t familiar with his comedy check out his Ruminations column. 

Valentine’s day is still a few weeks away and most don’t have concrete plans. However, one solid option for singles is a comedy show where you’ll have a lot of laughs and a few drinks or worst case scenario a few laughs and a lot of drinks. ;-)

PS- This is the perfect excuse to avoid any Valentine’s day drama.

Facebook…. is there blood in the water?

I don’t have a Facebook page…..

YES that’s right…

I don’t have a MySpace either and what’s more I’ve been holding out, yep, holding out for whatever is next. For the past six or seven months I’ve told my friends the MySpace era is over and we are now in the Facebook era and lately I’ve been adding and the Facebook era is in it’s mid to last phase.

Aaron Karo wrote in his Ruminations this past Monday “I think that most people are in agreement that MySpace is rapidly becoming another Friendster: a spam-filled clusterfuck ………. And let’s be honest, Facebook is not far behind.” He is hilarious and he is right.

Or course Facebook’s privacy invading new advertising beacon didn’t help their popularity. And this morning Techland had a post that opened with “A lot of people say that Facebook has jumped the shark. That’s flat out wrong. In fact, Facebook is now being devoured by the shark. There’s so much blood in the water, it’s attracting other sharks“

Maybe social networking sites have a defined window of time to be in the spotlight. Social networks are analogous to clubs/bars meaning very few have lasting “cool/in/hip” power nevertheless, there are very few places which will always be deemed cool. The question is will there be a classic/staple social netoworking site? The social networking sites that will probably thrive over the years are those connected to real life institutions like college alumni clubs, professional sports teams, and those dedicated to niche hobby/interests.

Recovering Frat Boy

Recovering Frat Boy is one of the ways Aaron Karo describes himself and if you receive his Ruminations column you know it’s a slow recovery. His columns are usually sent out late Sunday night and make for much needed Monday morning laughs. Ruminations began 10 yrs ago while Karo was at Penn. I saw him perform his act last year in Miami Beach and I was impressed his Ruminations are even funnier in person. He is scheduled to return to Miami in Spring so keep an eye out for dates. In his most recent column he described growing up in Long Island “Our primary export? Hordes of overly well-dressed, frighteningly bitchy, petite-framed chicks who are simultaneously hot and annoying.” — For a minute I thought he had grown up in Miami. ;-)
