Dave Barry’s Year In Review is a MUST read. Yes. it’s a little long but well worth it.
The New York Times Year in Pictures has great photographs and commentary.
Ok we’re in the thick of the holiday shopping season and if you’re anything like me you still haven’t gotten to that holiday shopping. Just the idea of driving up to a congested mall is a turn off and so today and tomorrow are crucial for ordering online gifts. There are so many holiday gift guides out there and most of them have one or two great ideas. I suggest scanning NY magazine’s Shop o Matic, WIRED, Splendora, and of course Dave Barry’s holiday gift guide . If you’d rather purchase in person but still hate wasting time in parking lots head to small shop alternatives. Of course BASE and Arrive come to mind for the chic have it alls, also check out CREAM, a beauty boutique in South Miami and Books and Books in Coral Gables and don’t forget Brenda’s Boutique in the Grove for expecting mothers, babies, and the girly girls on your list. Also consider memberships such as a Gen Art membership or a museum membership to MOCA or MAM is a great gift and many museums have wonderful gift shops with creative gifts. Speaking of creative gifts SWEAT records has lots of cool music and merchandise.
Another idea is to visit Chaging the Present and make a charitable donation in a friend/family member’s name to their favorite cause.
Readers have added the Miami Merchandise Mart (SS) and Overstock.com (Julia) please see comments.
Wednesday night you can stop by a less traditional holiday shop at 5800 Biscayne Blvd.
And on Friday head back to SWEAT for their second annual Stocking Stuffer party.
Don’t forget today is Tobacco Road’s 95th anniversary. Tobacco Road is Miami’s oldest bar and still a great place to go with friends and enjoy an amazing atmosphere. The festivities kick off today at 5 with drinks costing 95 cents for the first 95 minutes, the special ends at 6:35 but the party is going all night. Dave Barry and The Rock Bottom Remainders will be performing and proceeds go to America Scores Miami chapter.
