The latest issue of Music.Art.People (MAP) magazine is out and their Music + Sound issue features
- The Ravonettes on the cover and inside has a great article on them
- pieces on the local music scene
- Aramis Gutierrez
- an interview with Irvine Welsh

Wednesday, March 19 is Wolf Pack Design Night at Luminaire X.
Design Miami’s Wava Carpenter will be leading a discussion on 20th century design.
Tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 18th, Sunglass Hut is unveiling it’s new flagship store on Miami Beach, a redesigned shop that provides visitors with an experience representative of the local brand and especially its Miami Collection.
The opening will also serve as a launch event for this year’s Gen Art Fresh Faces. The event will feature collections from past Fresh Faces participants including Uli Herzner, Julian Chang, Karelle Levy, Maya and Bogosse. These talented designers will showcase collections and Danny Masterson will be providing the night’s soundtrack.
I guess plenty of people will be wearing their Sunglasses at Night.

Earlier this week PSFK’s Orly Sharaby wrote about Levis new Laser Etched Jeans released in Japan. The advertisementsshow heavily tattooed models wearing tattooed jeans. BBH Tokyo created the campaign and is smart to focus on the popularity of tattoos (Miami Ink) and consumers’ growing desire for individual, personal touches.
Levis is definitely hip to the youth market. A good example is their collaboration with Bravo’s Project Runway. Their limited edition dress sold out in less than 24 hours and can now be found selling for more than twice the cost on eBay.
Riding the wave of popularity from their partnership with Project Runway. Levis developed the Project 501 Design Challenge. A design challenge in which anyone can submit designs online, the public votes online, and the winner’s design will be produced and sold online.
It’s great to see Levis, an iconic company doing such a great job of understanding the consumer, I just hope they bring those Laser Etched Jeans to Miami.
Fortunately Miami is undergoing a lot of construction and renovation and I hope that Miami will follow Singapore’s lead in designing a green roof top for their new five story building for the School of Art, Design, and Media at Nanyang Technological University. PSFK reported the story via Design Flute. Design Flute has some amazing pictures of the school. The architects behind this project are CPG.
The second annual Miami Museum Members Month or M4 will kick off this Wednesday, January 30th, at The Sagamore from 7-10 p.m. This is a great opportunity to visit many of Miami’s museums and enjoy various events throughout the month. Participating institutions include:
Art and design are flourishing in Miami and everywhere you turn design is playing a pivotal role. This past week at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland four speakers sat down at the Future Design Debate. The IHT’s design columnist Alice Rawsthorn was a participant and covered the story. The fantastic four were:
Here is a link to the third annual PSFK NYC holiday windows display as photographed by PSFK’s Dave Pinter. My standalone favorite is the AIR window from Bergdorf Goodman, I love the elephant and the regal feel. As for my favorite concept it’s the Peace dove windows at Paul Smith.
