As we get closer to the debut of the Chanel Cruise Collection 2008 - 2009 at The Raleigh this week, more podcasts are becoming available.

The first podcast evoked refreshment and below are the 2nd and 3rd of 5 podcasts.

The 2nd brings to mind tranquility, getting away from it all, and enjoying time. Don’t miss the floating Chanel cloud logo. The 3rd teaser has the iconic Chanel logo magically floating above the sand and water, enchanting everything in its path.

Next Thursday, May 15th Miami Beach’s Raleigh Hotel welcomes the debut of Chanel Cruise Collection 2009.

You can see a clip from last year’s debut in Santa Monica, CA here.

“The concept of the Cruise Collection is based on traveling, and Miami is the ideal destination: A city that moves and has energy, with its small districts and its animated streets.” comments Karl Lagerfeld.

Below is the first of five Chanel Cruise Collection podcasts created to convey the energy of the 2008-2009 collection.

In Style magazine is bringing the Inside In Style event to the sands of South Beach on 11th and Ocean for the fourth year in a row. Last year over 2,000 of Miami’s chicest residents attended the two day event and this year’s event promises to be even better.

The event is held in collaboration with Miami’s Junior League chapter. For over 80 years the Junior League of Miami has led the way in giving back to the community in a variety of ways from fundraisers to community projects. In Style is donating 100% of the profits to the Junior League of Miami.

This year’s In Side In Style event will once again bring the glamour and style of In Style magazine to Miami with two full days of goodies, fun, and fashion.

Katrina Szish, InStyle’s national correspondent will be on site at the In Style cabana where she will be discussing getting ready for your summer style.

Katrina says now more than ever and especially in Miami the trend is bright colors, especially in accessories. And as far as how to wear this summer’s styles Katrina mentioned this summer is going to be more sophisticated and will have a natural feel think globally inspired, tribal patterns and safari chic.

Katrina mentioned that Miami has always welcomed bright colors and now everyone else is catching on. Local fashionistas should already be out on the hunt for those bright accessories paired with sophisticated neutrals.

For more style tips and to see the latest information on designers check out Katrina’s blog Style Spy.

And of course catch her this weekend at the InStyle Miami event with fashion shows, makeover, performances, spa treatments and so much more.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 on site.

The NYT’s Travel section has a piece on spending the weekend in Miami on a budget titled Miami Beach - Babylon on a Budget. As expected there is a slide show and map.

The piece mentioned how nice people were on South Beach, Wynwood’s Second SaturdaysArt + Design night in the Design District.

Last month’s Yoga Journal featured a story on 21 gifted teachers under 40, included was Miami’s own Kino MacGregor from the Miami Life Center.

Kino practices Ashtanga Yoga, and uses her yoga teaching as an empowering, life changing tool. She also works as a life coach focusing on holistic health and natural spiritual and physical growth.

The NYT has an article about the idyllic, picturesque Venetian Islands in today’s Travel section.

They have a slide show of the islands.

It’s interesting they mention these islands are starting to gain more attention… but locals have loved the Venetian Islands for a long time.

The best vitamin and health shop in Miami is on Miami Beach, and it’s a warm, inviting place offering the greatest vitamin, tea, and natural body health selection I’ve seen in a long time. By best I don’t mean biggest although this place isn’t small, it is simple and low key.

Vita-Life is a neighborhood, corner shop on the SE corner of Meridian and 6th Street, its off the beaten path and if you go during a weekday parking is a breeze. Vita shares the block with Uhma and the Miami Life Center. This holistically, healthy trio is staffed by helpful, well mannered staffs. Vita’s manager, Ray is a former personal trainer and a good resource for information on local gyms and great places to work out. Plus he can pick out the best snacks and teach you all about real label reading.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 18th, Sunglass Hut is unveiling it’s new flagship store on Miami Beach, a redesigned shop that provides visitors with an experience representative of the local brand and especially its Miami Collection.

The opening will also serve as a launch event for this year’s Gen Art Fresh Faces. The event will feature collections from past Fresh Faces participants including Uli Herzner, Julian Chang, Karelle Levy, Maya and Bogosse. These talented designers will showcase collections and Danny Masterson will be providing the night’s soundtrack.

I guess plenty of people will be wearing their Sunglasses at Night.

Just Don’t mess around with the guy in shades, OH NO.

NBC took a vacation to Miami this weekend, the Today show and CNBC’s Squawk Box were in town, come on you know they couldn’t resist the Food and Wine Festival.

Squawk Box had some insightful interviews with some of our local experts discussing:

The Today Show also covered the Miami real estate market but kept it lighter but still local with Enrique Iglesias.

One of the benefits of living in South Florida is the beach and like everything else our beaches need a little TLC too.

Recently I learned about Y:The Last Man a really great comic book series written by Bryan K. Vaughan about the last man left on Earth. Graphic novels and comic books are almost entering a second golden age and there are some amazing new writers like Neil Gaiman and characters like Glenn Ganges.

However, there is nothing like the original comic heroes and in Miami we’re fortunate to have the ZAP! POW! BAM! The Super Hero: Jewish Creators of Comic Books 1938-1950 exhibit currently on display in Miami Beach at the Jewish Museum of Florida.

It’s great to see how much the original comic book heroes have changed. Stories always need to be retold and reinvented (check out Marvel Zombies and Jack of the Fables) to make them resonate more with changing audiences. There is also the introduction of new media to tell some of our favorite old stories and who doesn’t love to see new special effects, ok maybe not all of them do it well however, those that do it well, blow the audience away and we love them for it. Characters and story lines have been jumping on to the silver screen more and more lately and with good reason from the Dark Knight to Wolverine it’s clear we like it, we love it, we want more if it!

The Stoli Hotel might have closed down but the Malibu Winter Beach Bash will drop into Miami for a one night engagement. The Malibu Winter Beach Bash promises to invoke a warm, Caribbean beach party wherever it goes. The MWBB kicked off in Milwaukee and stopped by Detroit, Chicago, Tahoe, New York and now Miami.

In Miami, a city known for its hot parties and Latin/Caribbean infused culture the Malibu Winter Beach Bash might feel as if this its homecoming. The party takes place this Saturday, February 16th at the Paris Theater in Miami Beach, expect a tiki bar, virtual volleyball and of course signature cocktails.

Your mouth probably waters at the mere mention of the Food and Wine Festival and every year the festival gets better and better. While many of the most well known events like the Amstel Light Burger Bash and Publix Grand Tasting Village are sold out tickets are still available for several wonderful events like

to see a complete listing visit the events page.

This is the Food and Wine Festival’s seventh year. The festival known as Florida Extravaganza, began at FIU’s Biscayne Campus hosted by the FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management . In 2002, after six successful years Lee Brian Schraeger of Southern Wine and Spirits relocated the festival to South Beach and renamed it the South Beach Food and Wine Festival. FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management still co-hosts the festival along with Southern Wine and Spirits and many of its students are given the opportunity to work with the nation’s premiere chefs.

This year The Setai will be hosting special events during the South Beach Food and Wine Festival. Events include the nightly Flavors of Asia, an Asian inspired food market, with champagne and dim sum and Saturday night’s The First Taste of Bordeaux pairing the best wines with a seven course tasting menu from Johnathan Wright tickets for First Taste are $850.

The  festival begins next Thursday, February 21rst and concludes on Sunday, February 24th.

Angels

Angels in Africa is a remarkable book that tells the stories of seven women in Africa who are proactively changing the lives of those around them. From a Ugandan nun leading a dance troupe for AIDS orphans to a Tutsi woman bringing together Hutu and Tutsi widows to heal from the scars of Rwanda’s genocide. Angels in Africa was featured on The Guardians top 10 photography books list.

Beth O’Donnell, a photographer who lives in Miami was behind the lens to capture the touching stories. Beth will be at Napapijri on Friday, February 15th from 7-9 p.m. for a photo exhibit and book signing. A portion of the proceeds from this book go to The Pendulum Project, a non-profit humanitarian organization focusing on children in regions severely affected by the HIV/Aids epidemic.

Sundance Film Festival is happening right now and as one of the best film festivals in the world it often premieres the best films of the year to come. Shorts are a big part of the festival and last year’s Sundance Shorts are available on I-Tunes.

Shorts are becoming ever more popular and in Miami we have a local film company Gold Dickenson Productions won the Orlando Film Festival’s short film category. You can view the trailer here. Pencil Fighting: The Life and Times of Team Balderdash was filmed entirely in Miami. While it is evident that these local film makers are fans of Wes Anderson’s work, it will be good to see how they evolve as they find their signature style.

For film fans Miami is offering more choices. Just this week:

Fellini is also the theme of this year’s MOCA POP fund raiser POP 8 1/2 La Dolce Vita to be held February 9th. The online auction is already underway.

The third annual South Beach Comedy Festival starts tonight Wednesday, January 16th with Kathy Griffin at the Fillmore aka Jackie Gleason and Louis C.K. at the Lincoln Theater. There will be numerous acts throughout the weekend including Katt Williams, Dave Attell, and Jeffrey Ross and Ralphie May from The Meanest Men in Comedy tour. Please remember there will be free comedy performances through out the weekend at the Lincoln Road stage. Check the schedule for the hilarious line up and remember laughter is the greatest cure for all ailments especially boredom. :-D

It’s a busy week in Miami as several events kick off and as I sat at my computer looking over my emails and scanning the menu at Whisk for my usual Monday lunch salad (Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Organic Spinach Salad w/ Shaved Red Onion, Local Avocado Slices, Chopped Egg, Cremini Mushrooms & Honey-Mustard Dressing) and cupcake, (Mondays and Wednesdays are Misha’s cupcakes days at Whisk gourmet) I noticed the link to peniferella at the bottom of the screen and I was delighted to find a great design studio.
