Come on you remember your little brother wearing his cape (a blue towel) and running around the house and yes the first Halloween costume you chose for yourself was Wonder Woman, including gold truth-telling lasso and all. (yes, she has some lame accessories but still better than Barbie)
From an early age we are fascinated with superheroes’ costumes their personally well-crafted merging of function, fashion, and fit. And actually fashionistas and superheroes have some things in common such as:
- the power of transformation
- knowing that clothes can help make or unmake a person’s identity, secret or not
- fashion as armor
- their appreciation and understanding for the perfect outfit
- embracing the power of good accessories
- shooting fire our of their eyes ….. ok only fashion editors can do that but still
There also exists an evolution in superheroes costumes, especially heroines’ costumes.
Next Tuesday, March 25th MOCA will be opening Pivot Points part 1.
Pivot Points will showcase works from MOCA’s permanent collection that mark turning points in contemporary art.
The MisShapes will be in handling the music for the opening night festivities.
As I’d mentioned before February is M4 or Miami Museum Membership Month. The website is now up and the M4 Events calendar is posted.

- M4 young collectors panel discussion at the Miami Art Museum co-hosted by Bakehouse Art Complex and Art Center/South Florida

Fourteen local artists and designers were commissioned to create original artwork for seventeen individual t-shirts, each representing one of the participating museums. The t-shirts, will sell for $25 and be sold at the kick off and closing parties, as well as at select events throughout the month. All fundraising proceeds will benefit M4.
