“The concept of the Cruise Collection is based on traveling, and Miami is the ideal destination: A city that moves and has energy, with its small districts and its animated streets.” comments Karl Lagerfeld.
Below is the first of five Chanel Cruise Collection podcasts created to convey the energy of the 2008-2009 collection.
PSFK reported on Vice Magazine’s 2008 Global Trend Report and provided readers with a brief comparison to last year’s report.
Vice Magazine’s annual report covers fashion trends in 15 upcoming cities among them:
Some differences you expect such as the contrast between NY and LA
NY: ” New York girls these days don’t want to look cutesy and innocent”
LA: ” For girls, the younger and cuter you can make yourself look, the better.”
Miami, didn’t make it into the report but we’ll try to work on a local trend report for you.
In Style magazine is bringing the Inside In Style event to the sands of South Beach on 11th and Ocean for the fourth year in a row. Last year over 2,000 of Miami’s chicest residents attended the two day event and this year’s event promises to be even better.
The event is held in collaboration with Miami’s Junior League chapter. For over 80 years the Junior League of Miami has led the way in giving back to the community in a variety of ways from fundraisers to community projects. In Style is donating 100% of the profits to the Junior League of Miami.
This year’s In Side In Style event will once again bring the glamour and style of In Style magazine to Miami with two full days of goodies, fun, and fashion.

As the fascination with couture cocktails grows it’s only natural to see molecular mixology (think molecular gastronomy for spirits) updating classics. Bacardi, one of our local favorites in Miami teamed up with master molecular mixologist Eban Freeman from Tailor to create the Mojito of the Future.

Earlier this week PSFK’s Orly Sharaby wrote about Levis new Laser Etched Jeans released in Japan. The advertisementsshow heavily tattooed models wearing tattooed jeans. BBH Tokyo created the campaign and is smart to focus on the popularity of tattoos (Miami Ink) and consumers’ growing desire for individual, personal touches.
Levis is definitely hip to the youth market. A good example is their collaboration with Bravo’s Project Runway. Their limited edition dress sold out in less than 24 hours and can now be found selling for more than twice the cost on eBay.
Riding the wave of popularity from their partnership with Project Runway. Levis developed the Project 501 Design Challenge. A design challenge in which anyone can submit designs online, the public votes online, and the winner’s design will be produced and sold online.
It’s great to see Levis, an iconic company doing such a great job of understanding the consumer, I just hope they bring those Laser Etched Jeans to Miami.
The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off today in Las Vegas. It’s always interesting to see what new technology we have coming in the next few months.
Innovation is a key word in 2008 and Business Week released a slide-show of its predictions.

The New York Times magazine has the seventh annual Year In Ideas issue to look back at the ideas that shaped 2007.
The New York Times is also looking forward to next year and featured Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2008 which is blue iris (click through color timeline).
The NYT article written by Cathy Horyn quotes Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute: “Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.”
The growth of blue’s popularity and dominance is in line with the Hot Trends predictions from JWT’s Marian Salzman and Ann Mack, which states that blue will become the new green as it relates to eco-friendly matters.
It’s hard to think that Green could ever be replaced. Green traditionally symbolizes nature, trees, freshness, youth, energy, ecology, agriculture, cleanliness, refreshing, growth, fertility, Spring. And yet blue also has great symbolism so we’ll wait and see. I could maybe see it happening for more ocean/marine centered environmental issues but I still think people and companies are going green.
