The NYT’s Travel section has a piece on spending the weekend in Miami on a budget titled Miami Beach - Babylon on a Budget. As expected there is a slide show and map.

The piece mentioned how nice people were on South Beach, Wynwood’s Second SaturdaysArt + Design night in the Design District.

It is closing weekend for Fredric Snitzer gallery’s current exhibit Echo/Repeat by Sean Dack.

The exhibition is a collection of images altered from digital to analog that show how beauty often comes through chance or imperfections.

Fredric Snitzer gallery is located at 2247 NW 1st PL and will be open today Friday 29th and tomorrow Saturday March 1rst from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

PSFK has more information on Echo/Repeat

It’s the Second Saturday of the month which means it’s Art + Design night and Wynwood and the Design District will have plenty of galleries and studios to visit. Amongst the galleries many artists open their studios especially at 1rst and 21rst Studios located at 2045 NW 1rst Ave.

And since it’s M4, so this weekend Bakehouse Complex and CIFO should be on your radar. CIFO will be hosting their Second Saturday concert series from 7-11:00 p.m. with Plan B, Universal Citizens, and Floyd performing.

As most of you have probably read by now the New York Times ran a piece about Wynwood and the Design District this past weekend. The article provided a map and slide-show.

It was great to see local artists and entrepreneurs receive national attention.

Here is a rundown of some of the hometown locations mentioned in the article:

Art Basel is here again. Quickly becoming one of the premier art weeks in North America Basel, Pulse, Scope and the rest of the satellite art fairs draw thousands of visitors to Miami each December. As Miami’s art scene grows and the number of fairs multiplies it is becoming more challenging to decide where to spend those precious few days. The three main areas of activity will be South Beach, the Wynwood Arts District, and the Miami Design District. Below is a list of must hit fairs and events.

  • Art Basel : This is the flagship.
  • GEISAI Miami : December 5-9 : Parliament Building, Soho Studios, Wynwood Art District, 2136 NW 1rst Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
    • 2001, GEISAI, Japanese for “art festival,” begins in Japan led by Kaiki Kiki, an artist led enterprise founded by Takashi Murakami. The idea is to allow artists to promote themselves and allow them to show and sell their work directly to the public. As you can imagine GEISAI takes off and six years later we’re lucky enough to have it show up on Miami’s radar. Traditionally GEISAI is held twice a year in Tokyo and has served as a launching pad for several artists. GEISAI Miami, has 20 artists representing five countries….. 3… 2… 1… lift-off
  • PULSE : December 5-9 : Soho Studios, Wynwood Art District, 2136 NW 1rst Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
    • Fresh off its first London venture, PULSE comes to Miami for the third consecutive year. This year PULSE promises to maintain its edge and take up a notch hosting the debut of GEISAI Miami and offering a technology and video lounge, Pulse Play>. This year Pulse Play> presents Shot, Counter-Shot curated by Christopher Eamon as the video program.
  • AIPAD Photography Show : December 5-9 : Wynwood Art District, NW 31rst Street and North Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
    • The Association of International Photography Art Dealers makes its debut in Miami, over 40 of the world’s leading photo galleries will be in attendance.
  • GEN ART : December 5-9, Palm Court, 309 23rd Street (just off Collins) Miami Beach, FL
  • NADA : December 5-9, Ice Palace, 1400 North Miami Avenue, Miami.
    • NADA stands for New Art Dealers Alliance which is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a strong sense of community for those working in contemporary art.
  • ART BASE-L : December 5-9, 927 Lincoln Road, Suite 118, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
    • Steven Giles the creative driving force behind BASE and BASE ANNEX partnered with DFC, David Leroi, and Gustavo Oviedo to present three installations at BASE ANNEX.
